So I'm getting comment spam, again. I try to keep a hands off approach to the comments people post. I rarely delete comments unless a post "breaks" my page layout. Even then, I usually just edit the text so it doesn't screw up my page layout. I'm sure there are even a couple comments that insult me that I haven't deleted.
But when it comes to spammers shilling their shit I delete it when I catch it. There was a good stretch where I had numerous blocks in place for the usual spam words and the spamming stopped. Now they are back with a vengeance. From the looks of the crap that spammers are posting I am tracking at least two, possibly three, different spammers trying to pollute my site. One of the spammers I have had success blocking with my safeguards in place, but the second spammer seems to be spamming different things so it's hard to lock them out by keyword with any degree of certainty.
So now I've added some image verification necessary to post comments. Let's see if that cuts down on the spam. If this doesn't work, I may have to move to either a registration service for posting comments or an approval queue, neither of which really appeals to me.
