To be honest, even though this is comedy, it isn't too far off the mark from reality. I know of a particular ATM pretty close to the shadier part of my city. Anytime someone withdraws money from the machine, it lets out a high pitch noise reminding you to take your money. This noise could probably be heard within a 3 block radius, letting crack addicts and the like know that a potential mugging victim is nearby.
