FBI Agents Without E-Mail
Because They Can't Afford Them

FBI Agents Without E-Mail

Budget constraints are forcing some FBI agents to operate without e-mail accounts, according to the agency's top official in New York.

Are you friggin' kidding me? How is this possible? If I am reading this article correctly, it's not that all the agents don't have Blackberry devices, which might be understandable, but they don't have an email address? Why does it cost them to hand out emails? Are they using software that has licensing costs associated with the number of users? *cough*Microsoft Exchange*cough* If so, that is a lame system.

The article also mentions that their outside emails have to be funded seperately. What does that mean? If they have a different system set up for external emails, I don't know why they don't just hire a sysadmin guru who can set them up with some open source alternatives that can be scaled quickly and cheaply.

Yes, Gmail. I think I have 100+ unused invites that they can have.

Also it will be less email accounts they'll need a subpoena for in their next online investigation, whatever that may be.
